Customizing with Group Feature
With the
additions of version 6.0 and 6.5 of Solomon IV, we have a new feature which
allows us to assign a customization to a group.
Previously we could assign customization to an individual or to all, but
not to a specific group.
To access
this feature, you must have all Solomon screens closed, and be logged in as a
user who has access to this area. I
typically log in as user: sysadmin.
From the
menu at the top choose Customize, then Select Level, and you will see this screen:

When
selecting a group, you must populate the group field. Groups can be edited or created with you
mouse showing focus on the group field, then F3 key, then select Add
button.
By design
this list of people in a customization group is not the same screen you get for
controlling group access rights (i.e. Utility > Group) which is screen 95.280.
Now that
you have selected the customization group, any customization you create will be
applied to the screens loaded by members of this group.
When
applying customizations to screens, you are asking Solomon first to load the
standard screen, then to load customizations which are created for all users,
groups of users, or single users. Hence
customized screens always take a little longer to load than non customized
screens.
This new
level of creating customizations works very well for the need to create a
common customization for a department, say Order Entry or Receiving. By keeping your customizations only to the
groups that really need they special screen changes, you can speed up loading
screens for all users who do not have special customizations.
