Our commitment to you was to create a monthly newsletter on how to use Solomon IV more effectively.  As they say, better late than not at all.  This letter is getting out later than I would like, but here it is.   Sometimes the simplest things can be the more meaningful.  Our article, Function Keys, is follows this belief.   For power users, the ability to keep your hands on the keyboard and still navigate about the data entry screen or the report screen, speeds up your tasks.   Eliminate the constant movement from mouse to keyboard and most all your data entry activity via the keyboard.

The second article is the productivity you can gain by off loading your reporting activity to a dedicating Solomon print application server.   This article review how to gain time back you launch reports, tasks, processes per a schedule at the application server, and free up your local workstation to do other tasks.

Another tip we are including is how to create a summary trial balance.  In the general ledger report area, everyone has a standard trial balance report.  This report can be quite long, if you are using multiple sub accounts; since each unique account number and sub account number usually will create a trial balance.   Learn to create a FRX report which has a single line for each account.    This is the key report we see auditors looking for at year end.

Speaking of year-end, I ran across a great tool for the any Solomon users who are concerned about audit trails.  Solomon does a great job for audit trails for our transactional activity, but there is limited audit trails for changes to the “master files”, such as chart of accounts, vendor address, customer addresses etc.  Learn about an add on product which allows you to select these “master files” and keep a history of changes.   This is a must for any public company who is struggling with developing internal procedures to meet the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.   Let the Solomon IV software create the audit process via some new special reports.

Take advantage of our customer referral program to earn yourself some money!  Earn $70 for each company referral name which leads to a software sale.  Simple and  easy are two ideas which we have incorporated as a ways of saying thanks for business referrals.  Read how you can easily benefit from this program (see link below).

Hope you find this ezine newsletter useful.  Pass it on to others in your company, as well as other Controllers and CFO’s.  Keeping it simple is the main purpose of this newsletter, so you and others can become more proficient with Solomon IV.
